David Waggie

Favorite Volleyball Memory:
David Waggie was the head coach at East Sac from 1986-2017. East Sac was formed after a consolidation of Wall Lake View Auburn and SAC City in 2007. During his 33 years of head coaching, he compiled at 654-209-39 record. David took three teams to the state tournament in 2001, 2006, and 2007. He also coached 17 conference championship teams. He was awarded District Coach of the year six times and Twin Lake Conference Coach of the Year eight times. In 2010, David was awarded the Golden Plaque of Distinction from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU). David served IGHSAU Volleyball Advisory Board from 2007-2011. He was also been a USA Volleyball club director of and coach from 1997-2005. Starting in 2013, he was an advisor and valuable resource person for local volleyball teams. David coached the Senior All-Stars in 2000.
Dennis Benson

Favorite Volleyball Memory:
Dennis Benson was the head at Maple Valley Anthon Oto High School from 1990-2013. During those 24 years, Dennis compiled at 598-250-41 record. Dennis took five teams to the state tournament in 1990, 1992, 1994, 2002, and 2004. Dennis also spent 15 years as an assistant coach, ten at Maple Valley and five at Unity Christian. He also served as Head Golf coach for 23 years. Two of his golf teams also qualified for the State Meet. Dennis has served on the IGCA Volleyball Coaches and Officials Hall of Fame Committee since 2005. He coached AAU Volleyball teams from 1998-2014. Dennis was also a South West Iowa Volleyball Clinic Drill presenter for many years. Dennis coached the Senior All Stars in 1990 and 2002. Dennis is currently teaching Agriculture at Unity Christian High School after teaching it for 35 years at Maple Valley Anthon Oto for 35 years. Dennis and his wife, Laurie, have been married for 40 years and live in Orange City, Iowa They have three children and one grandchild.
Nancy Diers

Favorite Volleyball Memory:
Nancy Diers was the head coach at Fairfield High School from 1988-2017, a total of 30 years. Her career record stands at 623-288-49. Nancy took three teams to the state tournament in 1986, 2002, and 2008. Her squad placed third in 2002. She was named Class 3A District Coach of the year four times. She also coached 15 Conference Championship teams. She was named Golden Triangle Coach of the Year multiple times. Nancy was the Director of the Southeast Iowa All Star Game. She also ran Tri-State volleyball camps at Mediapolis Iowa for over 20 years. Nancy served on the Iowa Girls Coaches Association All-State Selection Committee for seven years. In 2002, Nancy coached in the Senior All Star Game. Nancy currently teaches physical education in the Fairfield School District. Nancy and her husband, Dwight, have been married for 20 years. They have three children and five grandchildren. Nancy and Dwight currently live in Fairfield.
Rich Larson

Rich Larson has been a volleyball official since 1981. He has worked 17 state tournaments. Out of those 17 state tournaments, Rich officiated the finals five times with his long time partner, Von Bornholtz, who is also a 2018 Hall of Fame Inductee. Rich has also served on the board for the Sioux Land Officials Association. Rich officiates two other sports, football and girls basketball. Since 1981, he has worked state tournaments for the Iowa High School Athletic Association in football every year, including seven finals. He also served on the IHSAA Advisory board. Rich worked both boys and girls post season basketball games for 37 years including 11 boys state finals and 12 girls state finals. Rich works as a controller for the Sioux City Foundry Company. He is married to Shelley. They have two sons and two daughters.

Von Bornholtz has been a volleyball official since 1981. He has worked 17 state tournaments. Out of those 17 state tournaments, Von officiated the finals 5 times with his long time partner, Rich Larson, who is also a 2018 Hall of Fame Inductee. Von was a presenter for the IGHSAU rules meetings and clinics. He has served as president for the SiouxLand Officials Association for two different terms in 2002 and 2009 Von also officiates two other sports, football and basketball. Since 1981, he has worked state tournaments for the Iowa High School Athletic Association in football every year, including seven finals. He also has worked state tournaments for the IGHSAU in girls basketball 16 times including eight finals. Von lives in Sioux City, and works for the Boys and Girls Home as a high school teacher. Von and his wife Nicki have two children and six grandchildren.
